Additional Information

Swords Fencing Studio is owned by Tigran Shaginian, a four-time Russian national champion. Tigran has been fencing since the age of 7. In 1980, he earned a place on the Soviet Union's Olympic Pentathlon Team, proving him to be a top athlete in fencing, shooting, steeplechasing, running and swimming.

An Armenian immigrant to the United States, Tigran dreamed of a place where the art of fencing would be passed onto others so that they too would know the joy of fencing -- thus the creation of
Swords Fencing Studio.

General Fencing Information

Swords Fencing Studio follows the USFA guidelines, which follow international standards. Different countries have different teaching styles (i.e. they emphasize different things) but the basics are the same, and the international rules are the same -- hit the target.

* In Epee the full body is a valid target and scored via the tip of the sword which activates a buzzer when it's depressed.

* Foil scores the same but only the trunk of the body is the target,

* Sabre is scored by a referee since it involves the full blade (i.e. not just the tip) so it's impossible to hook up electrically. Sabre is waist-up for points.

Fencing is a very safe and fun sport!
- All weapons are for sport and have padded tips.
- All participants wear protective gear.
- Girls and kids are also provided with chest protectors.
